Superior Court

Judge Orth and Superior Court are proud of their accomplishments:
  • Superior Court has a new forensic program, the first of its kind in the State.  This program addresses the needs of those with mental health issues, gets them properly diagnosed,  out of the criminal justice system, and onto a mental health track.
  • In cooperation with the New Albany Floyd County School Corporation, she has expanded the education of the judicial system to high school, middle and even elementary school students.
  • Superior Court has joined with Leadership Southern Indiana to bring the Indiana Appellate Court to IU Southeast to hold oral arguments that will be open to the public.
  • She is working with Community Corrections to renovate a half way home for women. A place where women can get back on their feet and reunited with their children and families.
  • She and her staff have even taken Spanish lessons.

Community Service
Judge Orth has volunteered in Floyd County her entire career, serving organizations including Leadership Southern Indiana and The Metro United Way, where she received a Service Appreciation Award. She has been named the City of New Albany’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year and received the 2006 Woman of Achievement Award from Business and Professional Women. She is a Faculty Judge for "We The People", a civil education program for Floyd County elementary, middle and high school students. She served as the 2006/2007 President of the Sherman Minton Inn of Court.

Family Notes
Judge Orth and her husband, Terry Becker, and met in their Freshman year of college and have been married over twenty years. They have a beautiful thirteen year old daughter Brandy.

Terry is a software engineer at Humana. He is the former president and current board member of the Floyd County Extension Board. He is a member of the New Albany Redevelopment Authority and President of the Democrat Men’s Club.
Brandy loves soccer and is a member of the Net Surfers Soccer Club. She also enjoys track, participating in plays, violin and, she is a “graduate” of Malysz Daycare.

Judge Orth's Family.Judge Orth, Terry, and Brandy and are all committed to helping those in need. As a family, they have volunteered in New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina, redistributing food for over 12,000 families. They purchase and deliver food, clothing and school supplies to families on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, volunteer in Guatemala bringing supplies and food to native peoples ande contribute to and volunteer for many local organizations such as Bridgepoint, the Center for Women and Families and LifeSpan.

Judge Orth and Terry through their example have taught Brandy the importance of giving to the community and not just being a consumer.
